I hear Facebook is allowing higher quality photos

Yet their TOS still reads:

you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post

What llama in their right mind agrees to this crap and uploads their work to them? Your work is worth more than a silly like button.

Day Two Hundred Seventy Two

I asked The Girl to pose for a photo today. After having her stand while I took a test shot she asked for a glass of milk. I told her that it would be a quick photo so as soon as she was done drinking we'd make the photo.

She made me promise only to take one photo as she wanted to play. I agreed. So as soon as she finished she put the glass down and gave me this goofy smile.

As soon as the lights flashed she giggled and was off playing. It was only after I had put everything away did I notice what she had done… she had left a milk mustache on her face.

I'll get her next time.

Classic.

Been on a Stacy Lattisaw kick for a bit. And when my feed ever gets off it’s lazy ass to post here* you’ll see I’ve even got The Girl to learn the lyrics to one of the songs.

This duet with Johnny Gill is just classic.

* I don’t manually post my 365s here as they are automated and sometimes it forgets which day it is.

Launching a balloon into space and recording it is cool. Sharing the experience with kids makes it even more awesome.

Day Two Hundred Seventy

With music softly playing, his lips were gently saying : Honey, I love you - Love On A Two Way Street : Stacy Lattisaw

We were sorta caught off guard by last years talent show. So this year we decided we would start early, giving us plenty of time to practice.

Last year The Girl sung No One by Alicia Keys. This year she is gonna bust out one of Daddy's favorite: Love On A Two Way Street by Stacy Lattisaw. Ah yeah!!!

So while she sung along to the song, I put up a few lights to simulate the stage while both Mouse Girl and myself cheered along.

What was pretty funny was she said, "Daddy, what's desperation?" I told her "don't worry about that, worry about your pitch."

2:28 Is that a Canon Canonet G-III QL17 in the case? What I find surprising is that it’s not the black version.

Day Two Hundred Sixty Nine

The other day The Girl was singing the scales : Do-Re-Mi. I asked her who taught her that and she said her music teacher at school. I then asked if she wanted to learn how to play the scales on the piano. (It actually wasn't a question, as the tone was more of a sit down now and I will teach you.)

So I introduced her to everybody's favorite: The C Scale. As I recall from my younger years, "It's the one with no black keys". For a while I felt like Miyagi Keisuke trying to teach someone using metaphors but that didn't go so well.

Eventually, she did get the hang of it (correct fingering as well) and while preparing dinner I could hear her go from octave to octave. I felt like Suyuan listening to June play the piano.

Then she got all flancy and started going down the scale. I told her that was great but her fingering was incorrect and we'd work on that tomorrow.

Day Two Hundred Sixty Seven

After writing about Flavors.me and About.me I decided it was time to update my Flavors page with a new background.

I debated at first, should I go with the ever so cheesy holding a camera to signify that, "Yes, I am a photographer because I am holding a camera." Or just put up an image that has nothing to do with that. The decision was made even before I pulled the camera out of the bag.

Yes, I know there is a basket on my head.

A big Thank You to Kingfal. It's nice to know that Flickr members are watching out for one another.

Day Two Hundred Sixty Six

Decided that I wouldn't bother with work today and did a Bueller. I figured work would be waiting for me tomorrow anyways.

Somewhere in between the additional plates of Jamón Ibérico and chocolate croissants I found myself picking eggplants, cucumbers and Granny Smith Apples at the local orchard.

As an added bonus every Thursday is when they make apple cider so a gallon of cider found it's way home to which has not been reduced to less than half by the girls.

What's to become of the apples? Well they are now being prepped for Tarte Tatin for dessert tonight.

If you're in Las Vegas and are looking for The Great Pumpkin, the orchard's pumpkin patch will be open starting October 2.

Flavors.me v. About.me

Flavors.me

About.me

So I’ve been a Flavors.me user for a while now and for the most part it’s fine and does what it needs to do. But then along came About.me which is pretty similar. Each site are basically landing pages for all your stuff on the net.

They pretty much have the same services available (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, LinkedIn, etc…) with Flavors.me edging them out with a more services (maybe due to them being out a lot longer). Also both add the ability to add sites via RSS as well.

Both sites allow monitoring of site data however Flavors.me allows you to use your Google Analytic code on the site (boom). Also for paid members, you can use your own domain on Flavors.me, something About.me tells me they are looking into in the future.

However, Flavors.me has more built in templates compared to 1, that’s right I said one, that is available on About.me. Ok, About.me is still starting out so I’m sure they will add more templates to choose from.

Honestly, there really isn’t much difference between them. They both suck at pulling in your latest feeds (read delays or actually never till you bug the staff *cough* Flavors.me) They both require way too many rights when accessing your data. (Honestly do you really need the ability to delete my Flickr files About.me?) And they both suck on mobile devices.

So which one should you choose? Well the choice is obvious… Flavors.me because About.me is in closed beta. But once out of beta, because both sites are so similar it will be really based on which ones offer the most customization and services to pull from.

I think I’m gonna change my Flavors page to look like my About page.

Disclaimer, I actually pay for my Flavors.me account but whomever works out that permissions issues, full mobile rendering and has the feeds updated timely I’m like so there.

Day Two Hundred Sixty Four

When we upgraded the original iPhone to the 3G we were pretty bummed that the data and SMS plans were no longer bundled. But it turns out while we were bummed we made the switch I have a friend that didn't bother switching till the iPhone 4 and guess what. He got screwed.

Turns out that because he never got into the 3G data plan that when he went to upgrade he was put in the 250MB plan as there was no grandfather option for his original plan.

I know right? Screw you coming in, screw you coming out.

What does that have to do with this lame picture of my old phone. Absolutely nothing other than it's Tuesday which is Bleach night (I don't do Glee!) and it's pretty quick to shoot something like this and call it day 264.

Day Two Hundred Sixty Three

Looking at photographs on the computer screen is neat but there is nothing like holding a photograph you made with your very own hands. So every now and then I select a few of the photos I've made and print them out.

Nothing flancy mind you. Just simple 5x7 glossy to toss around the house.

Any of you print your photos out?

Fuji Finepix X100 : Oh freaking hawtness. Finally a small camera with an optical viewfinder (ok it’s hybrid but you can select if you want electronic or not).

It doesn’t appear you can change out the lens and are stuck with a 23 (quasi 35) ƒ/2. Then again that focal length works well for a lot of things.

Day Two Hundred Sixty

I had the pleasure of photographing @ManyaS tonight. She'll be speaking at this year's BlogWord & New Media Expo here in Las Vegas. The sessions was a blast and we got in some great photos. Plus she even let me use one of them for my Project365. How cool is that!

Very intelligent person with lots of energy and ideas. So if you're going to BlogWorld make sure you check out her session.

She also became my first @Square client. That's right, after the session I busted out the iPhone (yes that iPhone) and plugged in the reader and swiped the card. Honestly, if you're a freelance photographer you need to get this reader. The ability to process credit cards on the spot is like woah.

Ok back to more editing. Night everyone!

Wow, Photojojo and now Square is feeling my iPhone skin.

Awesome!

Untitled

Mr. Jack Dorsey, co founder of that little site called Twitter and CEO of Square tweeted my photo. Granted he probably doesn’t even know me from John but still, I thought it was cool.

Also the whole inline photo viewing in Twitter is tight! Even though it will probably take away page views from it’s partner sites but it’s still cool.

Every time you see me I look like I hit the lotto twice - Miss Me : Drake feat. Lil' Wayne

Today's been really fun. The article I've been working on with Photojojo went live today. So now everyone can make their own camera skin for their phone.

Then I find that Jack Dorsey tweets about my phone. Then @square comes back giving me props also.

Pretty neato burrito eh? All this because I was bored one night.

So I got on this plane and when I landed I was so exhausted that while I was waiting at the light I decided to grab my camera from the back seat, attach a lens, guess at the settings and photograph whatever was outside the passenger side window.

Day Two Hundred Fifty Seven

Mouse Girl is one of the biggest Princess Tiana fan in the world so she is just on cloud nine when she received The Princess and the Frog gown.

If she didn't have to take it off for school or bath she would have this on 24/7. And it just so happens that her homework for tonight was to bring in a photo of her favorite thing.

Day Two Hundred Fifty Three

A few days ago I received my V-moda coupon via their upgrade program. So with a $35 credit in hand I ordered their Remix Remote headset.

Today I took delivery of the set. This is my first time trying an inner ear headset and it feels a bit awkward. But I'll give it a good shot. Sound wise it's like someone went wild with the disco curve. However, that could just be a sign that I'm just getting old.

I gotta admit though when that 808 hit it's like partying at 1015 all over again.

So here I am checking out a local camera store’s website on my phone when I run into this. WTH? Really? You couldn’t even redirect users to a non flash portion of your site? I could care less about Flash v. HTML5 but you should consider developing a site that will display properly across any browser.

And while my plans of offering up the files where thwarted there will be a how-to published soon from photographing your camera, to editing it to fit the dimensions to fit the phone, then sending it to the printers to finally installing it.
